The Valencia College Music Program will fill December with music, and you can catch it on Valencia’s own radio station. A musical potpourri of programs will feature the many student ensembles and will include a holiday extravaganza with sacred and secular solos, duets and ensemble works from nearly all of our instrumental and vocal ensembles.
Broadcasts begin Saturday, December 5, 2020, and continue through December, with special broadcasts of the holiday show at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2020.
Here are highlights of the programs, as well as a schedule of the broadcast days and times for each program.
Program One: Singers, Strings, and Symphonic Band (SSS)
Hear the combined music of the Symphonic Band, Valencia Singers and the String Ensemble with music ranging from a text in Latin, to movie themes, a little Halloween fun, and everything in between. Enjoy this taste of what our larger ensembles have been working on this semester.
Program Two: Jazz Ensemble (JAZZ)
Listen to the Valencia Jazz Ensemble’s seven players, joined by their director, Frank Wosar, part-time faculty, music, as they present a collection of tunes from the 1920s to the 1980s.
Program Three: Contemporary and Commercial Music Ensembles (CCM)
Enjoy Valencia’s Contemporary Ensemble as they perform Broadway show tunes, in solo and duet formats, as well as the Commercial Music Ensemble for popular songs of the past 50 years to today.
Program Four: Valencia’s Annual Holiday Celebration (HOLIDAY)
The music makers at Valencia College have not taken a break from preparing music for the season of joy, hope and giving. Join Valencia’s performing ensembles for the 8th annual Holiday Celebration Concert, taking place virtually this year. Students from Valencia Singers, Contemporary Ensemble, Jazz Band, String Ensemble and Symphonic Band will present selections to wish you the very best this holiday season. Inspirational solos and duets, as well as large group works, will provide a wonderful variety for your holiday listening pleasure.
The schedule is as follows from Saturday, December 5 through Thursday, December 31, 2020. The same schedule will be repeated each week throughout December, so you will have many chances to hear performances of the songs and instrumental pieces our music students worked so diligently to learn throughout this fall semester.
